The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities provides leisure services and facilities to all citizens to improve social, mental, and physical development. We coordinate cost-effective, year-round management and maintenance of parks and facilities, aquatics, gymnastics, community recreation, youth and adult sports, and senior citizen programs.

The Planning and Zoning Department provides guidance to the Board of Supervisors and appointed Boards and Commissions in developing the vision of Stafford County that ensures future orderly development and economic growth that is reflective of the community’s desires and needs.

Public Information
The Public Information Office leads the communication efforts with staff serving as the main spokesperson for the Stafford County Government. In addition, staff members work with media representatives, maintain government cable channels, coordinate special events, and assist with the maintenance of Stafford's Web site.

The Department of Public Works includes Building, Environmental, Public Construction, Securities and Transportation. Funding for the Department of Public Works is derived primarily from user fees collected for the various services that the department provides.

Purchasing
The Purchasing Office reviews and processes all bids and proposals for the County and the School Board to ensure that the best value is obtained for each public dollar spent in accordance with the Virginia Public Procurement Act (VPPA) and the Stafford County Procurement Code. This office is also responsible for the disposition of County surplus property, the issuance of purchase orders, and administering all standard contracts for services and supplies.

The Sheriff is responsible for Animal Control, Emergency Communications, Criminal Investigations, Field Operations, Court/Civil Process, Administrative Services, and Professional Standards.

Water and wastewater services are provided to Stafford residents by the Department of Utilities, which was formed in 1982 to consolidate the South Stafford, Aquia and Hartwood sanitary districts into a single utility system. The Department serves approximately 32,211 accounts. Approximately 1,939 of these are non-residential.

Voter Registration
The Registrar, an appointed constitutional officer, ensures that the opportunity to register and vote is available to all eligible residents. The Registrar conducts registration and elections as required by the Constitution, Code of Virginia and directives of the State Board of Elections.
