The 2006 Stafford County Economic Development Strategic Plan identified four areas that are prime for redevelopment in Stafford County. As the region's population grows, Stafford officials believe that these areas will provide important opportunities for businesses and recreation. Stafford is encouraging redevelopment in these areas through private sector investment and partnership with the goal of providing a framework for improvements over time. These changes will provide a more sustainable economic future for these areas and for the residents of Stafford. The following are the areas identified for redevelopment:
Boswell's Corner -
A two-mile stretch extending south from Quantico Marine Corps Base along Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. Route 1), and I-95.
Courthouse Area -
The area encompassing the Courthouse, County Government buildings, and the new Stafford Hospital on Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. Route 1) at Courthouse Road (State Route 630), Interstate 95 exit 140.
- The historic heritage tourism area adjacent to Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. Route 1) at Warrenton Road (U.S. Route 17), along the Rappahannock River, across from the City of Fredericksburg.
Southern Gateway -
The area along Warrenton Road (U.S. Route 17), between Interstate 95 and Berea Road (State Route 654).
